The Bunnings Files

A groundbreaking investigative team -- made up of more than 500 SumOfUs members -- conducted secret shopper surveys at Bunnings warehouses in every state and territory across the country...and the results, called The Bunnings Files, will shock you.

Bunnings staff recommended toxic glyphosate products like Roundup to 53% of customers, and only advised the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 3% of the time.

This flies in the face of what Bunnings told SumOfUs members who wrote to the warehouse and were told Bunnings stores “actively promote the use of PPE” to customers!

🔍 The Bunnings Files also found...

• 69% of customers found glyphosate products, like Roundup, were the most eye-catching product in the herbicide section
  
  
• Only 15% of customers saw PPE available in the herbicide section alongside weed killers

"Roundup products were taking up all four shelves of two large sections of 'weed killer' area – probably 70% of available space. Glyphosate free products were up in the top right hand corner of the second section – had to look really hard to find them."

The Bunnings Files is a crowd-sourced SumOfUs project based on evidence from secret-shopper surveys conducted at over 50 stores across the country as well as the responses Bunnings sent to members who submitted feedback on Bunnings’ website between 8-30th Nov 2021.

The truth about glyphosate

It’s been the focus of bans in Germany, France, Vietnam, and Belgium. And subject to billions of dollars in lawsuits from cancer victims across the world. 

But you can still buy hundreds of bottles of Roundup at your local Bunnings Warehouse. 

Roundup's maker, Bayer-Monsanto, announced payouts of $15.9 billion to settle lawsuits from customers who had developed non-hodgkin's lymphoma from the weedkiller.

Yet rather than act, Bunnings continues to stock shelf-fulls of the product. 

Britain's largest home hardware chain, B&Q voluntarily removed all glyphosate-based products earlier this year, following a similar move by Costco in the US and Australia.

It's time for Bunnings to do the same.
